Hospital registration with a foreign passport

Prepare your passport details, confirm the hospital’s booking route, and keep one consistent patient record.

Practical notes·

Confirm the booking route

Before visiting, check the hospital’s official appointment instructions for foreign passport holders. Ask whether you can create a patient profile online, need a staffed registration counter, or must complete verification before using its app. Shanghai’s official guide includes both counter registration and online appointments; a first visit does not mean every hospital requires the same process.

Prepare your patient details

Bring your valid original passport and any existing hospital card or patient number. Keep your appointment confirmation and the department name available. Enter your identity details consistently and check the name, passport number and date of birth shown in your hospital record. If a form cannot accommodate your name, ask registration staff how to enter it instead of inventing a shortened version or creating a second profile.

Check before leaving the counter

  • Confirm the hospital campus, department, appointment time and check-in location.
  • Keep the patient number for payments, reports and future visits.
  • Ask how to correct a passport detail or link an existing record.
  • Check whether the booking channel needs SMS verification and which telephone number it accepts.
